Conservatoire du Bégonia

Interpretation Centre in Rochefort

  • Discover the infinite diversity of Begonias, over 1.500 species and varieties. Many expeditions leaving from Rochefort had a scientific and more precisely botanical purpose. First encountered on one of these expeditions in 1690, in the West Indies, the Begonia is one of the largest genera in the plant kingdom: 2.000 species on 4 continents. Begonias are found everywhere from sea level to the Andes Mountains, and some 15.000 hybrids have been created since 1845.
