  • Built by Ferdinand Arnodin in 1900, the Pont Transbordeur, (a masterpiece of metallic architecture), is the last working construction of its type in France.
    Towering 50m above the Charente, the bridge crossed the river without disturbing inland navigation between the Arsenal, the port, and the estuary.

    Built in 1900 by Ferdinand Arnodin and dominating the Charente river, it facilitated the crossing of the river without hampering the river navigation between the Naval Dockyard, the port and the estuary.
    Emblem of the Great Site of the Estuary of the Charente - Arsenal of Rochefort, it is a masterpiece of the metallic architecture and the last work of this type in France.

    Classified as a Historic Monument, the Martrou Transborder Bridge and the 7 others Transporter Bridge spread around the world claim to be listed as UNESCO Heritage Sites
