' Nothing grows in the shade of tall trees. ' By refusing to join Auguste Rodin's studio, the sculptor Constantin Brancusi formulated a conviction that has become famous: in order to grow, we must sometimes distance ourselves from those who inspire us. It is this fertile idea that irrigates Tony Melvil's new show. Through a series of original songs, he subtly questions this moment when everyone seeks their own path, between heritage, imitation and the desire to invent their own path. Conceived as a true musical piece, the work tells the story of this emancipation without ever resorting to traditional narrative. On stage, a singer on the accordion and a singer on the ukulele build, transform and reinvent a universe inspired by construction games. Over the course of the songs, the shapes appear, assemble, wobble and are reborn, while a mysterious stage manager seems to pull invisible strings. Little by little, between poetry, humour and emotion, a sensitive reflection emerges on the norms, fears and habits that guide our choices, but also on the courage it sometimes takes to free ourselves from them. True to his desire to address children 'as well as grown-ups', Tony Melvil signs a show that trusts their intelligence and imagination. Without delivering a lesson, he opens up a space where everyone is free to invent their own reading. A delicate and inventive musical theatre, to be shared with the family.
