Concert : Sacred Loti

For a dazzling musical evening, Pierre Loti's Festival Musiques au pays will explore the spiritual dimension and Protestant roots of the famous Rochefort writer. On the programme: Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantata BWW 82 Ich habe genung ('I am fulfilled'), performed by the Concert d'Astrée conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm; as well as an anthology of Bach's works for baritone, sung by Victor Sicard.

The Festival Musiques au pays de Pierre Loti will stop at La Coupe d'Or for a dazzling musical evening, in tribute to Pierre Loti and his cosmopolitan universe. After three editions devoted to his travels to the Americas and the Mediterranean, Victor Sicard, baritone singer and artistic director of the festival, wanted to explore the spiritual dimension and the Protestant roots of the famous writer from Rochefort, by inviting him to the prestigious Concert d'Astrée.
The ensemble conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm is one of the most renowned baroque orchestras, admired in particular by music lovers for its historical rigour and expressive freedom. It will perform the famous religious cantata BWW 82 Ich habe genung ('I am fulfilled') by Johann Sebastian Bach. A masterpiece of profound humanity, it sets to music the Canticle of Simeon, an old man who, having finally found peace, serenely welcomes the end of his life. Between stripping down and emotion, Bach delivers here a moving meditation on accomplishment and consolation.
An anthology of works for baritone by the great German composer will complete this program.
