Lecture: The Mer des Pertuis – from archives to shipwrecks

A lecture as part of European Heritage Days, presented by Sybil Thibaud (Department of Underwater and Submerged Archaeological Research) and Hélène Botcazou (Association for Development and Research in Maritime Archaeology).

During the course of the diving operations, nine suspected shipwreck sites were identified off the coast of the Île d’Aix. Some of these, which are complex and extensive, are thought to consist of the remains of wooden ships that could well correspond to the wrecks of French vessels lost and fire ships sacrificed during the battle of 1809.
