Sleeping Beauty

How do you surprise with a story you already know by heart? This is the challenge that the Collectif Ubique takes up with flying colors with this joyful adaptation of Charles Perrault's tale.

After Hansel and Gretel last season, the Normandy company is back in style by offering us here a dusted off and revived version of Sleeping Beauty, still alternating theater and music. To wake up a princess determined not to fall into torpor, the three performers revisit this great classic in a sober setting, consisting of three chairs and two lamps, accompanied above all by no less than fifteen musical instruments: theorbo, violin, bagpipes, bodhran, baroque guitar... With the only watchword: to break the codes with humor and poetry, in a great breath of freshness. The pleasure of the game and words is mixed with that of an original musical score, which charms and captivates. Between baroque and folk tradition, rhymed verse and slam, the Collectif Ubique offers a lively, feminist and playful rewriting of the tale while preserving its plot. It also brings out characters freed from archetypes and very tasty dialogues. The princess becomes an emancipated and active young woman. Fairies quarrel and suck at magic. As for the prince, he is sickly shy! With this irresistible trio, full of appropriateness and musical grace, we often laugh, we are moved a lot.
