For nearly twenty years, Cotonete has been promoting incandescent jazz-funk, where soul, Brazilian rhythms and an irresistible sense of groove mingle. After Super-Vilains (2019), patiently matured on stage from concert to concert, the Parisian octet founded by pianist Florian Pellissier and saxophonist Frank Chatona returns with Victoire de la musique, released in 2024. Conceived against the band's usual method, this new album was born from seven days of immersion in the studio, in an intense creative effervescence. From this experience came a generous and luminous repertoire, where vintage keyboards, bright brass, deep bass and bewitching rhythms draw a soundscape as sophisticated as it is danceable. Heir to Herbie Hancock's Headhunters as much as Azymuth or Banda Black Rio, Cotonete weaves here with remarkable freedom the threads of jazz, funk, samba and soul. On stage, these compositions take on their full scope: the eight musicians extend the energy of the record into vast improvisational spaces, where collective virtuosity feeds a festive, generous and intensely lively celebration.
