Jazz : Madeleine Cazenave

Inspired by volcanic landscapes and their buried power, the Trio Rouge led by Madeleine Cazenave shapes a jazz tinged with pop and neoclassical influences. Its concert is lived as an immersive musical and visual experience, both intense and hypnotic.

Classically trained, the pianist from La Rochelle Madeleine Cazenave is also imbued with eclectic musical references, which range from Chick Corea to Keith Jarrett, Nina Simone or Erik Satie. Le Trio Rouge, his flagship project founded in 2018, is already rich in two albums, Derrière les paupières and Vermeilles, thanks to which he has not taken long to make a place for himself in the landscape of the new French jazz. His bold and accessible style is distinguished by a sensitive and refined writing. Its quest for expressive simplicity gives rise to music of great depth, oscillating between restraint and intensity. With Volcan, the trio opens a new chapter. Wider in its production, tinged with pop and neoclassical influences, this album remains faithful to its identity while exploring new sonic territories. Fascinated by the figure of the volcano, Madeleine Cazenave, double bassist Sylvain Didou and drummer Boris Louvet draw on this powerful imagination, both creative and destructive, to compose music with moving colours, where textures, silences and dynamics draw real soundscapes conducive to contemplation.
Based on archival images by volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, enriched by other video creations, Rouge imagines a form of hybrid concert, where music and image interact pertinently.
