National Slam Day

To celebrate National Slam Day, come and discover slam* in all its facets, via writing games and performances by local artists! What is slam?

Slam poetry is a popular movement of oral, urban and rhythmic poetry, characterized by its public declamation during open stages and its strict rules of performance. Comes from the English word slam which means 'to slam' (like a verbal shock or slap). Born in Chicago in the United States in 1986 (we're celebrating his 40th birthday!) Thanks to the poet Marc Smith, then a house painter with a passion for poetry. He invents an open tournament stage with 3 founding rules: 3 minutes maximum of microphone, a capella (without music), no costume or accessory. A jury chosen from the audience scores the performances in order to motivate the speakers. The tournament format is not mandatory, many slam activists have been opening stages of expression and leading workshops since the early 2000s in France. The emphasis is on sharing, respect and freedom of expression. Giving poetry back to everyone is the strength of this movement!
