Ceramics course: A true work of art with clay

In all the workshops on offer, you will create unique and original pieces, and will receive guidance as you work, to encourage your creative approach to ceramics.

Two days of hands-on practice and great freedom, of letting go, during which you will be guided through creative techniques specially designed and offered for this occasion!

On the programme:

On Day 1, ‘Exploring Volumes’, you will experiment with different techniques for creating forms using the clay or clays of your choice: slab building, pinching, coiling, stamping or block modelling (excluding wheel-throwing). You will be able to create one or more pieces, before possibly adding colour on Day 2 (Sunday).

On Day 2, ‘Exploring Decorating Techniques on Unfired Clay’, which complements Day 1, you will discover and practise decorating techniques on unfired clay, allowing you to explore your creativity through the use of coloured engobes and various application techniques (sgraffito, mishima, stencilling or resist, brush, bulb or sponge application, spraying, etc.) .

At the end of your course, your pieces will be kept on site so that they can first dry slowly in the open air. Then, if you wish, after an initial ‘biscuit’ firing, they will be protected by the application of a glaze (transparent enamel) and fired a second time at a higher temperature. You can then come and collect your pieces from the studio, and consider continuing this craft during future courses or in weekly workshops!
