Virtuosity, freedom and symphonic power are the common threads of this program bringing together two masterpieces of French and Austrian Romanticism.
Composed in 1880 for the great violinist Pablo de Sarasate, Saint-Saëns' Violin Concerto No. 3 seduces with the elegance of its writing, the perfect balance between soloist and orchestra, as well as its lyricism that is by turns luminous, dreamy and flamboyant. Sarah Nemtanu, one of the most brilliant French violinists of her generation, reveals all its finesse and brilliance.
With Symphony No. 9 'La Grande', Schubert signs one of the most ambitious works in his repertoire, both innovative and majestic. Composed in the last years of his life, it unfolds an orchestral breath of unprecedented breadth, alternating heroic and dancing impulses, moments of contemplation and irresistible rhythmic energy. At the head of the orchestra, its artistic director Raphaël Merlin infuses these two scores with all their expressive force and modernity.
