  • Writer and artist Judith Gautier was passionate about the Far East. She learned Chinese and Japanese and contributed to the dissemination of Asian culture in cultural circles. Cultivating literary friendships, she was close to Pierre Loti, with whom she wrote a play, La Fille du Ciel (The Girl from Heaven), which was performed in New York in 1912.
