Conference: Pierre Loti – Pierre Guette, a meeting for life

Pierre Guette, alias Pierre de Kadoré, was the ‘gold-spangled acrobat’ at the Louis XI dinner given by Pierre Loti on 12 April 1888 to inaugurate his new Gothic hall. Fascinated by Loti, the young man followed in his footsteps by becoming a frigate captain himself and trying his hand at writing.
Philippe Ridouard, a member of the Deux-Sèvres Historical and Scientific Society, recounts the story of this naval officer who was greatly influenced by Pierre Loti.
