Vietnamese Partition is a historical fresco spanning a century of Vietnamese history and its ties with France, the terrible partition of the country and the exile of the Việt Kiều. Antonin is the grandson of Rosaline, a Vietnamese woman who left Saigon in 1958 with her children to join her husband in France, a Vietnamese man who was a pilot in the French army. Other stories unfold in parallel: the reign of Duy Tân in the early 20th century and his political commitment, the fate of the painter Alix Aymé and her brilliant pupil Trần Văn Cẩn, who joined the Communist Party and Ho Chi Minh. Antonin attempts to rediscover his family history through his grandmother's stories, old photographs and books, but memories are painful and the past that is revealed seems abysmal...
