Léon Lavoine left his mark on the town of Rochefort in the first half of the 20th century.
After arriving in Charente-Maritime around 1897, he was appointed architect of the civil hospices in Rochefort in 1902, and then municipal architect from 1905. His style was eclectic, but also nourished by modernity, as he used metal in civil architecture, as seen in the former Sigrand et compagnie shop on avenue de Gaulle.

This tour will take you through the architectural traces he left in the town, including the monumental Émile Zola school complex, built with his son.
