From 2010 to 2013, Roger Boulay took part in an exceptional mission to inventory Kanak heritage dispersed in museums and public collections around the world, in close collaboration with Emmanuel Kasarhérou, now president of the Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac Museum. In 2006, the Musée Hèbre was the first museum in mainland France to take an interest in the transmission of Kanak culture and to establish a traceability of the collections presented.

This meticulous investigation is documented by more than 3000 pencil and watercolour sketches. Through a dialogue between the original sketchbooks and works from Rochefort and other French museums, the exhibition invites visitors to embark on the "inventory adventure" in order to understand the concrete reality of the work and to highlight the stages, the actors and the memorial issues of this colossal mission. In a context of questioning the status of non-European collections, this inventory and enhancement work takes on its full meaning.
