Twelve promising young dancers offer us an anthology of four pieces. These performers, all graduates of the Paris Conservatoire, are destined to become dancers with some of the world's leading dance companies. Here they take on an eclectic programme with a rich contemporary aesthetic.
In her Concerto, the American choreographer Lucinda Childs, a central figure in post-modern dance, confronts her research with the living music of Gorecki. Her dance, with its slow, triumphant gestures, diagonals and pure lines, resembles a mathematical equation of divine logic.
A radically different universe emerges from Temps scellé by Algerian-born choreographer Nacera Belaza. In this dizzying piece of minimalist movement, the dancers twirl as if in a trance.
Next up for the new generation is Tamir Golan, a newly qualified Israeli choreographer who has already won several awards. His choreography has been created especially for the Ensemble.
The finale of this exciting evening will be The Bad by Hofesh Shechter, one of the leading lights on the British contemporary scene, also of Israeli origin. His hypnotic choreography, powerful rhythms and daring, energetic performances take us on a journey of adrenalin and groove.
