"Who is the rarest of the great writers who has graced France during my reign?" asked Louis XIV of Boileau, the King's man of letters and artistic adviser. "Molière," replied Boileau. Even today, the illustrious Jean-Baptiste Poquelin remains a symbol of French culture and language. The famous "language of Molière". We study his plays at school, we know his legend, but what do we really know about the man and his life? Where did Molière play? In the street, on the stage or in the salons and theatres of the Court? What and who did his plays refer to, and what made people laugh and gnash their teeth in the 17th century?
Martin Petitguyot, who delighted us as a grandfather garage mechanic in La Jurassienne de réparation in June 2021, is back to play an asthmatic and awkward biographer and lecturer, who will help us to dispel a few clichés about Molière. Passionate and unpredictable, this Jacques Lafargues will be doing his utmost to dust off the statue in the course of a quirky and truculent lecture. It's an opportunity for him to tell us the incredible story of this extraordinary artist, as well as echoing some of the playwright's famous lines. A show that, like its inspiration, plays with all the codes of popular theatre. Delightful!
