Une ville - un architecte

A city, an architect - Alphonse Bourgeat

Cultural ,  Guided tour ,  Historic in Rochefort
  • The town's architect from 1854 until his death, Alphonse Bourgeat (1828-1879) is undoubtedly one of Rochefort's most endearing personalities, but also one of its most little-known.

He designed, for example, the remarkable cenotaph of Joseph Bellot, and was also responsible for some of the most beautiful eclectic façades in the town centre, which he did not hesitate to decorate with rich sculpted decorations, perfectly ordered according to rules that he enjoyed reinventing.
