  • Between Jewish and Hispanic influences, the classical guitar reached all its poetic power with Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco in the 1930s. To embody the guitar's revival, who better than the young virtuoso Thibaut Garcia, whose career has already been crowned with numerous prizes and honorary appointments? Whether in recital or accompanied by an orchestra, he is capable of happily renewing interest in his instrument, whose technical and expressive resources are infinite.
Composed just as Beethoven was becoming deaf, his Symphony No. 2 hardly bears witness to the artist's contemporary torments. This spirited score, classical in its writing, nevertheless contains some highly innovative elements. Here Beethoven inaugurates his true symphonic style, with its dynamic contrasts, unexpected modulations and propulsive movement.
A contemporary work completes this exciting programme: Four Psalms by Heinrich Schütz, composed in 1996 by the Franco-American artist Betsy Jolas.
