Sarāb was born of the encounter between French-Syrian singer Climène Zarkan and guitarist Baptiste Ferrandis. With a name that means "mirage" in Arabic, the group masterfully blends rock, jazz and traditional Arab sounds in a joyful collision of Western and Eastern scales.
Since its eponymous debut album released in 2019, Sarāb has continued to open wide the vast kaleidoscopic range of its inspired, vibrant, powerfully generous universe. With Arwah Hurra (2021), their second opus, they confirmed the originality and energy of their "Arab jazz-rock".
Sarāb take us on a journey to the heart of Eastern words and melodies, Western rhythms and sounds. We're caught up in their addictive trance-like music, punctuated by soothing interludes where the vocals are bewitching, fluid and tender, almost diaphanous. Climène Zarkan's captivating voice perfectly accompanies the ensemble's instrumentalists, who draw the substance of their music from the diversity and richness of the Syrian and Egyptian musical heritages. This unclassifiable sextet of thirty-somethings from the Paris region is definitely worth discovering.
