  • Fort Lupin, completed in 1689, is one of the elements of the defensive system of the Rade forts to control and defend access to the Royal Arsenal of Rochefort.
    Vauban had developed a small fort combining the advantages of a low semi-circular battery which allowed for low shots to be fired into the ribs of ships and a tower which was also called a "réduit" and which allowed for plunging shots to be fired into the deck of ships.
