  • It's the story of a strange guy who spends his days in the shopping centre. This lonely man, hooked on to the world by pathological consumerism, salivates at the supermarket shelves. He pounces on the sweet vending machines and tasting stands. He dreams of being the winner of a competition organised by a brand of Mexican food. It's the story of a strange guy who spends his days in the shopping centre. This lonely man, hooked on to the world by pathological consumerism, salivates at the supermarket shelves. He pounces on the sweet vending machines and tasting stands. He dreams of being the winner of a competition organised by a brand of Mexican food. His mock social life is limited to palpating his favourite security guard, Jeff, at the entrance to the shop, and making idle chitchat with Martine, the bar manager.
With Nul si découvert, Valérian Guillaume adapts his first novel for the stage. It depicts the obsessive odyssey of a compulsive consumer. Alone under a bus shelter, this borderline individual shares with us his existential overflow, or rather emptiness. He tells us about his endless life, his wanderings among the signs, the enchantment and insipidity of hypermarkets. The lack of punctuation in the text creates an intense flow of words, a metaphor for the self-dazedness that hides his emotional malaise.
A true athlete of breath, Olivier Martin-Salvan portrays this singular boy with great sensitivity and accuracy. He gives him his generous curves and his warm, soft, almost childlike voice to amplify the monstrous ambiguity of a monotonous existence trapped in the temptations of over-consumption that threaten us all.
