Come and discover the museum of the shops of yesteryear with your family!
As you walk through the museum, with music playing in the background from the voices of Arletty and Maurice Chevalier (among others), come and take a trip back in time through the first half of the 20th century; to the great beginning of advertising, before the opening of supermarkets, before the consumer society and before the great upheavals that the wars will bring.
You will discover about fifteen small shops reconstituted in life size in a former hardware warehouse of more than 1000 m2 with an Eiffel type architecture.
The Musée des Commerces d'Autrefois was born of a crazy adventure, that of a couple of enthusiasts. Over a period of fifteen years, they collected thousands of objects related to trade and crafts: first small objects, then furniture, in order to put them back into their original context. While looking for a place to share their passion, they came across this building, located at 12 Rue Lesson, in the centre of Rochefort. They fell in love with it immediately and the museum opened its doors on 7 July 1990.
So many shops, worlds, smells, atmospheres that have now changed or completely disappeared from our daily lives, but not from our memories...
